Hot Rod Bio: XL57 Corvette – The C1 That Finally Fits

At SEMA, we caught up with Jeff from Motor City Solutions to check out what looked like a beautifully restored 1957 Corvette.

From ten feet away, it looks factory. Classic proportions. Chrome. Two tone paint. White coves. You’d swear it was a high end C1 restoration.

Then you get closer.

This isn’t a restored Corvette. It’s something entirely different.

Solving the Biggest C1 Problem

Let’s be honest. Original C1 Corvettes are tiny.

If you’re tall or even just built bigger, driving one comfortably is tough. That’s exactly what Dynamic Corvettes and Shadow Rods set out to fix.

The result is the XL57 Corvette.

The concept was simple. Keep the iconic 1957 look, but reengineer everything underneath so real people can actually drive it.

This wasn’t a quick project either. They spent 11 years developing it. Building versions, scrapping versions, refining molds, adjusting proportions. The goal was to make it bigger without looking bigger.

And they nailed it.

Most people walk up to it and have no idea it’s not an original C1.

Roadster Shop Foundation with C7 Suspension

Underneath the body sits a Roadster Shop Spec 7 chassis with C7 Corvette suspension.

That alone changes everything.

The frame rails are pushed outward, allowing the floor pan to be dropped two inches. The seating position moves back four inches. That might not sound like much on paper, but inside the car it’s the difference between cramped and comfortable.

The wider track also allows for modern tire fitment without looking cartoonish. It still keeps that classic C1 stance, just planted better.

This prototype is running an LT4 paired to an 8 speed automatic, which makes it far more usable than an original drivetrain. It also retains a fully functional folding convertible top, something you don’t often see on wide body C1 style builds.

It’s modern underneath, but still feels like a 57.

Built as a Roller, Finished Your Way

Motor City Solutions is bringing the XL57 to market as a roller package.

That means buyers get the Roadster Shop chassis, the complete fiberglass body, glass, trim, and functional top all assembled and ready to go. From there, builders or customers can finish it however they want.

Drivetrain choice.
Paint direction.
Interior style.
Technology.

Take it mild. Take it wild. It’s open ended.

And if someone wants a full turnkey build, Motor City Solutions can handle that too. It just comes down to how far the customer wants to go.

Why It Makes Sense

Jeff made a great point when we were talking.

If you own a real C1 and want modern suspension, more space, bigger tires, and modern power, the cost to heavily modify an original car gets expensive quickly. And there’s always that hesitation about cutting into an original body.

With the XL57, you get the look without the guilt. No hacking up a survivor. No compromising a collectible.

Just a better driving experience wrapped in a classic shape.

Huge thanks to Jeff and the team at Motor City Solutions for walking us through the XL57 and for running CVF Racing accessories on the build.
