What is so special about an 8 rib serpentine system compared to a standard 6 rib?
8-rib serpentine systems are generally considered better than 6-rib serpentine systems for several reasons:
- Increased belt grip: 8-rib serpentine belts have more ribs, which means they can grip the pulleys more securely. This results in less slipping and better overall performance.
- Improved load distribution: With more ribs, the load is distributed more evenly across the belt, reducing wear and tear on individual components and increasing the lifespan of the system.
- Higher power output: The increased grip and load distribution of 8-rib serpentine systems allows them to handle higher power output from the engine. This makes them ideal for high-performance vehicles or applications where a lot of power is required.
- Reduced noise and vibration: The increased grip and improved load distribution of 8-rib serpentine systems also reduces noise and vibration, resulting in a smoother and quieter ride.
Overall, while 6-rib serpentine systems are still effective and widely used, 8-rib serpentine systems offer improved performance and durability, making them a popular choice for many modern engines.
