Are alternator pulleys universal?
A universal listing still has specific fitment requirements. Match the shaft dimensions, belt type, groove or rib configuration, and pulley alignment. Vehicle make alone does not confirm that a pulley fits your alternator.
What does changing alternator pulley diameter do?
Pulley diameter changes alternator speed relative to engine speed. With the same crank pulley, a smaller alternator pulley spins the alternator faster and may improve charging at idle. Check the alternator manufacturer's speed limits and your engine's operating range before changing pulley diameter.
Does every alternator need an external fan?
Fan requirements depend on the alternator's design. Some use an external fan, while others have internal cooling fans. Follow the instructions for your alternator and accessory drive rather than adding or removing a fan based on appearance.
Will a billet pulley increase my alternator's amperage?
A replacement pulley does not increase the alternator's rated capacity. A diameter change affects operating speed, which can influence output at a particular engine RPM. For greater electrical capacity, choose an appropriately rated alternator and wiring setup.
How do I find a replacement for my CVF system?
Check your system's installation instructions or parts list for the fan and pulley part numbers. If you're unsure, contact CVF with your system part number and alternator details before selecting a replacement.
