FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the questions our support team hears most often about CVF Racing serpentine kits, pulleys, alternators, and accessories.
Which kit or system do I need, and will it fit my engine? +
We offer a wide variety of kits for different engines, and sometimes multiple variations for the same engine. Whether you order online or call in, we're going to ask you a series of questions — on our website these are presented as radio buttons. Each selection is important to making sure the right parts get included in your order, so answering those questions honestly and without guessing is the first step. Consider: Are you looking at a serpentine or V-belt system? Are you planning to reuse your existing accessories or looking for new replacements? What finish are you after? Having a budget in mind also helps us guide you to the best option.
For compatibility, check the application notes, additional information, and installation instructions towards the bottom of each product listing. We also provide detailed dimensions for every system in the product photos on each product page — so you can verify clearances for your specific build before you order.
Still unsure? Use our Engine Finder tool or call us at 651-356-8593 and we'll help you find the right fit.
What is CVF's warranty policy and how do I register? +
CVF Racing products are Made in the USA and backed by a Lifetime Warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. For full warranty details visit our Warranty page or contact our support team.
Important: You must register your warranty to ensure coverage. Visit our Warranty Registration page to get your product registered today.
My belt is squealing — what do I do? +
Belt squeal is almost always caused by misaligned pulleys, incorrect belt tension, or a glazed belt surface. Check pulley alignment first using a straightedge across the pulley faces, then verify tensioner preload. Our tech video How to Fix a Squealing Serpentine Belt walks you through the diagnosis step by step.
Belts and pulleys are not aligning — what do I do? +
A straight edge is one of the fastest and most reliable methods for diagnosing misalignment in pulley systems. Your eyesight is never a good judge — there are too many shapes and angles under a hood that will play tricks on you. We also don't recommend laser alignment tools; if the laser is off by just 1/64" at 2", it can be off by over 1/4" at 18". Instead, use a metal ruler or straight edge touching both sides of the crank pulley to draw a straight line to the other pulley so the offset can be accurately measured.
What's the difference between 6-rib and 8-rib serpentine systems? +
6-rib belts are standard for most street builds and handle typical accessory loads with ease. 8-rib systems are designed for high-horsepower or supercharged applications where extra belt grip and load capacity is needed. Read the full breakdown in our 6-Rib vs. 8-Rib guide.
Can I run a mechanical fan with a CVF serpentine kit? +
It depends on your specific kit and water pump configuration. Many CVF systems are compatible with mechanical fans but there are clearance considerations depending on your application. Check the Mechanical vs Electric Water Pump article for guidance, or call our tech line at 651-356-8593.
I'm adding AC — what additional parts do I need? +
Depending on which kit you have, we offer AC upgrade options. Most of these are not listed online to avoid customers ordering components without the preceding product first. Each upgrade will vary, but a good rule of thumb is that we charge the difference between the kit you purchased and the kit you're upgrading to. Any parts that change — for example a crank pulley that has already been used — would be in addition to that total. Call us at 651-356-8593 and we'll put together the right upgrade for your build.
Do your AC compressors come pre-filled with oil? +
Yes! All CVF Racing air conditioning compressors come pre-filled with oil. There is no need to add more before installation.
My alternator failed — what do I do? +
First, make sure your purchase is registered on our Warranty Registration page. Then take the alternator to your local auto parts store — tell them to run the profile against a 1985 Corvette. Take a photo of the failed test result and email it to support@cvfracing.com. Alternatively, send the alternator in and we'll test it on our dyno.
Can I buy individual components or parts separately? +
In some cases individual components are listed online, but most of our serpentine components are not. Since our pulley kits are mostly 8-rib and very few vehicles came from the factory with 8-rib, our spacing is proprietary. To avoid confusion, we prefer customers call in to special order individual serpentine components. They are still available — just phone the order in and we'll get you sorted out.
What belt size or part number do I need? +
Belt numbers for each kit on eBay and Amazon are usually listed at the bottom of the listing. If ordering direct from CVF, you have the option to add belts to your order for an additional cost. Because of the number of variations across our systems we don't publish belt lengths online — but you can always email us with your order number and we'll provide the exact belt number for your configuration.
Do you make a kit for my specific engine or application? +
Our website is always our most up-to-date listing guide. If you don't see your engine in the left-hand navigation menu, we don't have anything for it just yet. Check back regularly as we're always expanding our lineup — or email us to let us know what you're looking for.
What type of power steering fluid should I use? +
We recommend a good synthetic power steering fluid or standard power steering fluid. We do not recommend ATF — it is too viscous for newer pumps and can cause performance issues over time. For line hookup questions specific to your kit, check the installation instructions on your product page or call our tech line at 651-356-8593.
How do I return or exchange an item? +
Products may be returned for a full refund within 90 days of purchase for any reason given that the product is in a new, unused, and uninstalled condition. All returned products require an RMA number provided by CVF Racing. Returns arriving without an RMA will result in a delayed and/or denial of a refund. Please review our Return Policy page for full details. You can also reach our team at support@cvfracing.com or 651-356-8593.
