My tensioner isn’t sitting flush on the bracket

If the tensioner stands proud of the bracket, every pulley downstream of it is out of plane, and the belt will ride to one edge and start shaving itself.
Overview
Short Answer
The teeth on the back of the tensioner have to drop into the matching holes in the bracket. If the tensioner is sitting out from the bracket, that locating feature almost certainly has not engaged.
Check the tensioner’s locating teeth first
The tensioner locates on the bracket through teeth on its back face that drop into matching holes. This is the first thing to check, because it is easy to snug the bolt down with the teeth resting on the face of the bracket instead of seated in the holes.
The result is a tensioner standing roughly an eighth of an inch proud, which is enough to push the belt to the back edge of the accessory pulleys and start wearing the belt edge away. Back the bolt off, make sure the teeth drop in, and retighten.
If the teeth are seated and it still stands out
The other two things to look at on bracket plane problems are:
- Balancer depth. A balancer with a different hub height than the kit was built around shifts the crank pulley, and therefore the whole belt plane.
- Bracket spacers. Confirm every spacer supplied with the kit is installed, in the right position, and that none have been doubled up or left in the box.
Checking tensioner position once the belt is on
Seating is one thing, position is another. Once the belt is installed there are two position lines on the tensioner, and where they sit relative to each other tells you whether the tensioner is where it should be.
Correct position is the two lines lining up with each other. Slightly off centre is also acceptable, which is the second photo below.

The tensioner can be adjusted plus 5 degrees or plus 10 degrees with the ADJ-PUCK. If your tensioner position line is too far toward the bottom line, that adjustment will bring the position line closer to the centre.
If your tensioner position line is too close to the upper line, do not reach for the puck. Review the belt routing instead and make sure the belt is properly seated in every pulley. That is usually what is behind it.
